Patrons Who Are Deaf or Have Hearing Loss

Assistive Listening System

Infrared and/or RF hearing devices are available to provide hearing amplification for patrons with hearing loss in all venues of The Kentucky Center and Brown Theatre, including meeting spaces. Patrons can sit anywhere in the theater and use the headsets. Headsets with induction neckloops are available for patrons who use hearing aids and cochlear implants with a "T" switch. Ask your audiologist whether your hearing aid or cochlear implant has a "T" switch (telecoil) and how to use it with an assistive listening headset. Headsets and neckloops are available at the Coat Check at both the Kentucky Center and Brown Theatre.

In The Kentucky Center's North Lobby, a Hearing Loop is provided for the benefit of hearing aid and cochlear implant users with a t-coil setting.

Caption Theater

Caption Theater is provided for selected performances for patrons who have hearing loss and may not benefit from hearing amplification or ASL. The audible elements are shown on an LED sign, in real time, as each line is spoken or sung. Please make your reservations for this service at the time you purchase your ticket through the box office to ensure the best seating for this service.

Kentucky Performing Arts also offers captioning upon request. Requests to caption non-designated events must be received at least two weeks prior to the event by the Access Office. These requests are subject to the availability of a Captioner.

Sign Interpretation

Sign Interpretation is available for scheduled performances. Please make reservations a minimum of two weeks in advance. If no patrons have requested the service by the two week deadline date, the service will be cancelled. Sign Interpretation is American Sign Language unless otherwise noted. Locations in the theaters vary according to the production.

The Kentucky Center also offers sign language interpretation upon request. Requests to interpret non-designated events must be received at least two weeks prior to the event by the Access Office. These requests are subject to the availability of a certified Interpreter.

Access Services Requests

If you cannot attend a scheduled captioned, or sign interpreted performance please call or the Access Services Hotline 502-566-5111 (V), 711 (TRS), or email Access Services to request the service for another performance. Kentucky Performing Arts will work to accommodate access requests whenever possible.
