Masha Gessen is a Russian-American journalist and biographer of Vladimir Putin. Now she details how, in the space of a generation, Russia has surrendered to a new strain of autocracy. The Washington Post has described her newest book as “Ambitious, timely, insightful and unsparing … a sweeping intellectual history of Russia over the last 4 decades, told through a Tolstoyan gallery of characters….”

Clarissa Ward joined CNN in 2015 from CBS News, where she served as foreign correspondent. Prior to that, she spent 2 years in Moscow for ABC News. She interviewed Pakistani journalist Ahmed Rashid at the Author Forum in 2012.
